Right of Way Rules
- 1/201. At intersection without signs
The right-hand rule applies when no signs or signals are present.
2. At roundabout
Vehicles inside have priority unless otherwise signed.
3. At pedestrian crossing
Drivers must stop for pedestrians crossing or about to cross.
4. At yellow signal
Yellow warns the signal is changing to red; proceed only if stopping suddenly is dangerous.
5. While changing lanes
Maintain lane unless clear and safe to switch.
6. While overtaking
Yield to oncoming traffic and never overtake where prohibited.
7. At T-junction
Vehicles on the terminating road must give way.
8. From unpaved to paved road
Priority is given to traffic on surfaced roads.
9. Entering highway
Merging traffic must adjust speed and wait for a safe gap.
10. Exiting private property
Driveways and private accesses do not have priority.
11. At green arrow with red light
The green arrow allows movement in its direction; red light still applies otherwise.
12. When emergency vehicle approaches
Emergency vehicles with sirens or flashing lights have absolute priority.
13. In a traffic circle without signs
Right-hand rule applies in absence of roundabout signs.
14. While turning left
Opposing traffic going straight or turning right has priority.
15. At flashing yellow signal
Signals are inactive or cautionary; follow right-of-way rules.
16. When bus leaves stop in urban area
Buses have priority when re-entering traffic in towns or cities.
17. At STOP sign
Proceed only when the way is clear and safe.
18. At GIVE WAY (YIELD) sign
Enter only if no vehicles are approaching from the side.
19. When turning right at intersection
Check crosswalks and bike paths before turning.
20. When tram is turning or at tram intersection
Trams generally have priority over other vehicles.
